Biography:
My experience in health care began in my senior year in high school in the co-op program at Beaumont Hospital-Royal Oak where I was enrolled in the Nursing Assistant program through Kimball High School. After graduation I continued to work at Beaumont on the nursing units and later in the physical therapy department. I also attended classes for the pre-physical therapy program and the actual physical therapy program. The work experience in the hospital served me well while in school and continues to do so in my work as a PT. I now have 15 years of clinical experience.
After earning my degree I spent my first year in the Beaumont system doing in-patient and outpatient therapy. I then hired into a privately owned outpatient company and became the director of one of the facilities in 1996. The company was bought and sold several times over the next five years which brought about many changes in management, work environments, and staffing situations. Through all of this I had had two children and gone back to part-time staff therapist.
By 2005 I decided I needed a new environment to practice physical therapy and took a job offer from Daniel Garr, PT at HealthQuest in Oxford. At HealthQuest I found a supportive and educating environment that had been lacking in my previous job. During my time here I continue to learn something new almost every day from my coworkers. Every quarterly staff meeting is like going to a continuing education course because every therapist is so knowledgeable. Every day patients ask me why I drive so far to come to work (I live in Macomb Twp) and I tell them “Because this is where I like to work.” |
