There are many reasons why I chose a career in physical therapy, some of which are the love for human anatomy and the desire to provide personal care to others, however, my family lies at the core of why I find myself here today. When I was very young my Grandmother suffered a heart attack which lead to vascular complications, this in-return resulted in the loss of her limb above the knee and is the reason why she had to learn to live with a prosthesis. I was able to watch her rehab and become stronger with the help of her physical therapy team and her own self-determination. I wanted to become a practitioner that had the skill set and the compassion to help patients like my grandmother stay motivated and achieve their goals.
I was lucky enough to have worked as a rehab technician with patient sin both orthopedic and acute care settings over the past 5 years while attending college. I was given the opportunity to see patients before and after surgery as they progressed from acute care to outpatient therapy. There is no feeling more rewarding than when you are able to make a difference in the lives of both the patients and their families.
Since college began, I have been determined to achieve my status as a physical therapist, working 3 jobs while attending undergrad and giving my all while attending Wayne State University. I owe my success to my family and friends for supporting me through all of the phases of my schooling which has earned me the degree of Doctor of Physical Therapy. I am proud to now have the opportunity to serve at HealthQuest Physical Therapy in the community in which I was raised, being from Chesterfield this means helping the people in my backyard.
