I fell in love with the field of physical therapy while I was in my undergrad at Oakland University. While trying to decide what I wanted to do for my career, I ended up needing orthopedic surgery for my ankle and shoulder, my grandmother went through rehab after a major cancer surgery, and my dad needed cardiac rehab after an open-heart surgery. During this time, I experienced the profound impact that physical therapy can have as a patient, a family member, and as a patient advocate. I switched my major to pre-physical therapy with an exercise science minor and never looked back.
I started working and volunteering as a tech in various PT clinics while finishing my Bachelors, and began applying to PT schools. I almost ended up going to PT school in New Mexico, but decided to attend Wayne State University to stay closer to my family and my girlfriend at the time (she’s now my fiancé…so I definitely made the right choice!). At Wayne State, I fell more in love with the profession of physical therapy and ended up working as a TA for several classes. I gravitated towards outpatient care and pursued challenging and unique clinical rotations specializing in manual therapy and the treatment of orthopedic diagnoses.
My fiancé and I have been together since 2016, and we are looking forward to our 2020 May wedding! We have two rescue pets at our house, a 9-year old cat named Luna (affectionately known as “Tuna”) and a rambunctious 1-year old puppy named Stella. We enjoy spending our free time going on hikes with Stella, attending concerts, and heading up north to Hubbard Lake when the weather cooperates.
I am now excited to be a member of the HealthQuest team where I can continue providing the highest level of quality care to my patients. I believe that Physical Therapy can stand as the first line of defense for many ailments, and should be more proactively involved in injury prevention and improved function throughout the lifespan. I am excited by the future of this profession and look forward to being a member that advocates for the highest standard of care for each and every patient.
