Hip, Knee & Leg

WHAT IS HIP, KNEE, & LEG PAIN PHYSICAL THERAPY?

The hips and knees are the body’s largest joints and take most of the force from a lifetime of movement. Knees are prone to injury from sports and high impact movements and hips and knees both tend to become problematic as we get older. It’s a fact of life that the cartilage in the joints inevitably breaks down and most people will need surgery to repair the damage. Whether it’s a sports injury, post-surgical recovery, or pain management our team of experienced HealthQuest Physical Therapists and technicians will help you recover faster and stronger with a personalized physical therapy program.

COMMON CONDITIONS

we treat of knee, hip & leg

The structures in your hips and knees are very similar, therefore they can be subject to many of the same injuries, stress, disorders, deterioration, and diseases. Some of the most common causes of hip and knee pain include:

  • Knee: ACL tear MCL or LCL sprain Patella (knee cap) dislocation
  • Ankle sprain, Achilles tear or rupture

  • Arthritis is a condition that involves the inflammation of tissues that surround the joints.
  • This condition can cause knee and hip pain.
  • A physical therapist can teach you correct posture and proper movement techniques to protect your joints.

  • Knee and hip pain are very common. We can help diagnose and treat any sort of hip, knee or leg pain.
  • Chondromalacia patella - aka anterior knee pain is most common

  • Several overuse injuries, including muscle strains and tendonitis, are common in both hips and knees.
  • This is because the joints both experience constant use.
  • Meniscus injury: The meniscus is a C-shaped piece of tough, rubbery cartilage that acts as a shock absorber between your shinbone and thighbone. It can be torn if you suddenly twist your knee while bearing weight on it. A torn meniscus is one of the most common knee injuries.

  • If you have a weak gluteus medius muscles and tight hip flexor muscles, this can cause the hip to rotate inward without you realizing it.
  • Because of this, abnormal stress can be put on the knees, resulting in painful conditions, such as patellofemoral stress syndrome or iliotibial band friction syndrome.

  • Joint replacement or arthroscopy are common knee, hip and leg surgeries we can help prepare you for or post operative.

  • Pain may also develop as a result of referred pain from a pinched sciatic nerve since the nerve travels through both areas.
