Stay Active this Winter

Staying active during the winter months can be tricky if it’s cold outside. But the most important thing is to find what works for you and stick with it. Here are some of our favorite ideas for all ages:
- Embrace the Winter Wonderland: There are great snowy season activities like cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. If snow isn’t in your forecast, there’s always trail walking to keep your heart pumping and enjoy the beautiful landscapes. If you’re not feeling confident (balanced) on the trail, walking poles are a great addition (and a great way to burn extra calories)!
- Indoor Fitness Classes: Join indoor fitness classes, whether at a local gym or virtually, to stay active during colder months. Options like indoor cycling, yoga, or high-intensity interval training (HIIT) can keep you warm and fit.
- Home Workout Challenges: Create a fun and motivating home workout challenge. This could involve daily exercises, weekly fitness goals, or even a friendly competition with friends or family to keep everyone engaged.
- Dance it Out: Whether you join a dance class or simply dance around your living room, dancing is a fantastic way to stay active, boost your mood, and keep warm.
- Snow Sports: If you have snow near you, try winter sports like ice skating, sledding, or even a friendly snowball fight. These activities not only keep you moving but also add an element of joy to your winter routine, and you’d be surprised how many calories you burn doing these activities.
- Mall Walking: If the weather outside is too harsh, consider mall walking. Many shopping malls open early for walkers, providing a climate-controlled environment for exercise.
- Join a Sports League: One of the best ways to sneak in fitness activities is by disguising it with a sport you love. Our favorite way to do this is through Stay & Play Social Club. They offer something for everyone, all year long! SPSC welcomes all age groups, experience levels, and schedules to partake in recreational sports and make some friends along the way!
However, you choose to spend your winter, make sure your physical health remains a priority. If you’re limited from putting exercise first due to aches and pains, schedule a Free Assessment at your nearest HealthQuest location! We hope your winter season is filled with fun!
