All through high school and college, I enjoyed being active. I loved lifting weights, swimming, playing soccer, and hiking. Once I graduated and began working a desk job, I became very sedentary and lost that passion for health and fitness. In 2018, I tore my meniscus in a freak accident while cooking Thanksgiving dinner. It was a bit of a wake-up call to how susceptible I had become to injury due to inactivity. Before this injury, I only knew about PT through what I saw in TV shows, which was usually someone who was in a car accident learning to walk in parallel bars. That is certainly a part of PT, but through my own experience going through Physical Therapy for my knee, I discovered PT is for everyone. It empowers people to gain strength and independence and continue with the activities they love. I knew then I wanted to learn more about the profession, and I ended up returning to school to become a PTA. Now I am grateful to be applying those skills and knowledge to help empower others with the tools they need to regain and maintain strength and function, and to be working in a setting where I am continually learning from the team I am working alongside.
