If you experience intense heel pain in the morning, when you take your first steps out of bed, this is a classic plantar fasciitis symptom.  The most common description of plantar fasciitis is a stabbing or sharp pain in the heel or bottom of the foot and/or having increased difficulty when taking steps early in the morning or after prolonged sitting.

What is plantar fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia, the thick band of tissue on the undersurface of the foot.

The plantar fascia attaches at the tip of the heel bone (calcaneus) and onto each toe. The pain is due to the sudden tension of the plantar fascia as it gets stretched after shortening overnight.
