After graduating, I always knew I would someday want to take my degree further, and eventually specialize in something in the field.  As a student on my clinical internship, I worked side by side with a physical therapist that treated women with lymphedema. I discovered then that I, too, would want to treat patients who suffer from lymphedema: a chronic condition of swelling that can occur anywhere in the body, typically after cancer treatments. So in 2013, after working three years, I attended a course in Illinois for nine days and became certified in the treatment of patients with lymphedema.  Treatments in physical therapy are aimed at reducing the swelling with massage techniques, bandaging and exercise to help the patient complete their activities of daily living more optimally. I continue to treat patients with conditions of the orthopedic nature, and enjoy so very much. That gratification is only larger now that I have the opportunity to work with more patients.
